Another alleged bomber’s video message appeared to address the British public, accusing them of being too busy watching soap operas to “care about anything”.

Umar Islam allegedly declared the West could “never win in this war” as long as people like him remained steadfast.

“I say to you disbelievers that as you bomb, you will be bombed. As you kill, you will be killed.

“And if you want to kill our women and children then the same thing will happen to you. This is not a joke.”

He added: “Most of them are too busy watching Home And Away and EastEnders, complaining about the World Cup, drinking your alcohol, to care about anything.

“That is all you seem to care about and I know because I have come from that.”

Mr Wright also said the gang considered other targets in addition to at least seven flights leaving from London Heathrow airport and bound for the US.

He said there was evidence Canary Wharf, a gas pipeline between Belgium and the UK, chemical companies, oil refineries and other UK airports were possible targets.

The jury also heard how the gang apparently stockpiled materials for their home-made liquid devices which were to be smuggled on to aircraft disguised as soft drinks.

They were shown a video of a test in which a similar bomb, made by Government scientists, was detonated, destroying recording equipment and demolishing furniture.

Mr Wright said: “In a confined space such as an aircraft, an explosion such as that would, we say, have a devastating and quite lethal effect.”

Those who recorded videos were: Ali, Umar Islam, Ibrahim Savant, Waheed Zaman, Tanvir Hussain and Arafat Waheed Khan.

Eight men are on trial accused of conspiring to murder and to endanger aircraft at Woolwich Crown Court in south-east London. They all deny the charges.
