ARMED police rescued more than 400 children from a rogue Mormon sect yesterday in the biggest child sex scandal in American history.

The children – mostly girls – and about 130 women wearing “pioneer-style” dresses and braids were led to a fleet of buses as they left the compound built by jailed leader Warren Jeffs.

State troopers swooped after a teenage girl rang to tell them that girls aged just 14 were being abused at the Yearning for Zion Ranch in Eldorado County, Texas.

She said they were being forced into polygamous marriages with much older men – and even relatives – at the 1,700-acre compound run by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The official Mormon Church, which has long banned polygamy, has tried to distance itself from the FLDS.

“In my opinion, this is the largest endeavour we’ve ever been involved in in the state of Texas,” said children’s protective services spokesman Marleigh Meisner.

An unknown number of men were being held at the ranch last night.

Sect leader Jeffs is in jail in Arizona awaiting trial on sex charges. He has already been found guilty of being an accomplice to the rape of a 14-year-old who wed her cousin in an arranged marriage in 2001.

Yes Sandie .... having a topic concerning so called Chritians commiting heniuos crimes, to comment on shows our even handedness.

I wholeheartly agree with you in condeming without reservation these monsters.

It shows that we do not care about the religion ... its the behaviour of the followers of any so called religion that matters.

400 Saved from a convicted Child Rapist , and criminal ?

There is a Country called (or used to be Known as England)

We are also in need rescue from Criminals, Drug Dealers, Child rapists, Muggers, thieves, and Conmen .

Perhaps when you have finished "Saving" those poor souls, you might want to start helping out the 60 million population from there own Goverment ?

Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Why do British journalists keep going on about ARMED police. Outside the U.K. all police are ARMED all the time. It's NORMAL to have ARMED police. ARMED police exist everywhere else. Anyone who has been on holiday to France, Spain, Greece or Germany will have seen ARMED police. Why don't British journalists write about raids by British unARMED police?

I'm always accused of criticising Muslims, and I'm also being told there are Christians who are criminals.....

So here we have it. Christians abusing young girls.

And here I am, saying these men should be locked away for a long time.

Same as I would for *ANYONE* who behaves in this vile manner.

I do notice though it says 'rogue' Mormon sect. Which means it is not commonplace.

The terrorist cells organised by Muslims are not rogue cells, they are commonplace, and positively encouraged by their religion.

There is still a difference..... also these men were not preaching to others to join them en masse, or encouraging others to kill people who don't agree with them.
