THREE IN COURT AFTER PC HIT BY VAN

Friday April 11,2008

Three people have appeared in court charged in connection with the attempted murder of a police constable who was hit by a van.

Richard Fisher, 26, Paul Sheldon, 25, and a 16-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stood before magistrates in Walsall, West Midlands, charged with aggravated vehicle taking.

Pc Robin Haddock, 49, was struck by a van in Sneyd Lane, Bloxwich, as he got out of his patrol car to speak to its driver on March 18.

He and a male colleague, who was not injured, had stopped the van after it failed to stop at a red light.

The constable, a father-of-four from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, suffered skull fractures, bleeding from his brain and had to be given life-saving surgery.

He remains in hospital recovering from his injuries.

Fisher, of Whistance Court, Sandwell Street, Walsall, and Sheldon, of no fixed address, were remanded in custody.

The 16-year-old girl was remanded into the care of the local authority.

All three will appear at Walsall Magistrates' Court on April 18.
