The woman was reported to have died in an attack on a school in the central Somali town of Belet Weyne.

Two Kenyans and a Somali man holding a British passport were also reported to have been killed.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "Staff from the High Commission in Nairobi are urgently investigating but the Foreign and Commonwealth Office are unable to confirm any of the details at present."
