A Bristol teenager is due to appear in court on terror charges

Wednesday April 30,2008

A teenager accused of possessing explosives and plotting terrorist attacks has been remanded in custody.

Andrew Ibrahim, 19, of Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, faces charges of possessing explosives and terrorist articles as well as intending to commit acts of terrorism.

He was remanded in custody until May 23 after a short hearing at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London.

Police carried out a series of controlled explosions as they searched Ibrahim's suburban home following his arrest on April 17.

Avon and Somerset Police, supported by Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command, said more work remains in the "challenging and complex" inquiry.

Ibrahim, whose full name is Andrew Philip Michael Ibrahim, but is known as Isa, was charged with three offences on Tuesday.

He is accused of possessing an explosive substance, hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), with intent between January 1 and April 18.

Ibrahim faces a second charge of intending to commit terrorism in that he intended to construct and detonate an improvised explosive device.

He is also charged with possession a CD, two home made vests, ball bearings and air gun pellets while intending to use them for terrorism.

The final charge also accuses him of possessing nails and screws, wired circuitry, batteries and electric bulb filaments for terrorism.
