Wednesday May 7,2008

THE NEW three-part series sees anthropologist Professor Robert Winston try to answer the question: “Are we born or are we made?”

He has been observing the same group of 25 children since 2000.

Now aged seven and eight, the boys and girls are struggling to make sense of how their gender affects who they are.

Rhianna, whose dad is spending more time in the pub, is retreating into a world of Bratz dolls and music videos while Tyrese’s mum thinks he is getting more aggressive and worries he will end up joining an inner-city gang.

Helena, the only surviving sibling of triplets, loves anything pink and tomboy Megan is starting to take an interest in boys.

Increasingly, they are looking to the outside world for their role models. Prof Winston attempts to discover how the children are adapting to everyday life.
