Joleon Lescott

Thursday May 8,2008

Everton's versatile defender Joleon Lescott scooped an awards double on Wednesday night, being voted the club's player of the year by Toffees' fans and also players' player of the year.

The 25-year-old has played in 53 games for Everton this season and notched an impressive nine goals.

Signed initially as a centre-back, the Birmingham-born star has spent much of the campaign filling in at left-back and has still managed to force his way into the England squad.

He made his England debut as a substitute against Estonia at Wembley in October, and has now won five caps.

Lescott started his career at Wolves, but having helped them win promotion to the top flight, spent that entire season out injured.

He signed for Everton for £5million in June 2006, and appeared in every league match of the following campaign.

And as Everton have embarked on an impressive UEFA Cup run and maintained a top-five position, Lescott has continued to prove himself a crucial part of manager David Moyes' squad.

Lescott picked up his award at the club's third annual end of season awards dinner at Liverpool's St George's Hall.

Striker Victor Anichebe picked up the young player gong after proving a talisman for the Toffees in Europe.
