UK NEWSBRITONS TOLD TO PUT EU STICKERS ON PASSPORTSMonday May 12,2008 By Alison Little Deputy Political EditorBRITISH travellers could be urged to slap stickers on the covers of their passports spelling out their status as European citizens, it emerged yesterday.
Tories said it was another EU bid to “muscle in’’ on Britain’s passports, 20 years after the UK’s dark blue hardback passport was replaced by the soft cover, burgundy-coloured EU version. [>
From July 1 next year, all new UK passports will quote Article 20 of Europe’s founding treaty, as well as the UK’s historic request for the bearer to pass freely and be protected “in the name of Her Majesty’’. [>
The EU quote states that every citizen of Europe has the right to protection by another member state’s embassy if they get into trouble in a country where their own nation does not have diplomatic representation. [>
[> Until the new passports are issued, the European Commission has urged the British Government to issue stickers quoting the article and to encourage people to attach them to their existing passports. [>
Foreign Office officials welcomed the addition of the treaty quote, which featured in legislation published in Brussels last week, “as a good way to keep British nationals informed’’. They are exploring the issue of interim stickers. [>
But Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague said: “Once again the EU is desperate to muscle in on passports. Our Government should remind them that British passports are still primarily Britain’s business. [>
“The danger is that this is part of a broader Brussels agenda to extend control over how people are looked after abroad. Now it’s passports. Next could be visas and embassies.’’ [>
The treaty quote will appear beside the traditional declaration: “Her Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance, and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.’’ [>
The EU declaration will state that “every citizen of the Union shall, in the territory of a third country in which the member’s state of which he is a national is not represented, be entitled to protection by the diplomatic or consular authorities of any Member State, on the same condition as the nationals of that state’’. [>
A spokesman for the European Commission said the statement would make EU nationals more aware of their rights abroad. [>
Critics of Brussels fear EU bureaucrats wish to extend Europe’s reach. [>
A new diplomatic corps is being established under the terms of the Lisbon Treaty and the Commission may set up EU consulates outside Europe to carry out consular work for smaller EU states. [>

As long as this unwanted EU symbolism is voluntary I will just say "NO", same as I say "NO" to putting a ring of stars on my car number plate (I actually prefer to show the Union Jack, as its my National Flag).
Compusion though, is a different matter.
Compusion would be a very sinister step and would confirm my worst fears about the expansionist EU and its political intentions.
So what choice would I have if faced with undemocratic compulsion? If I disagree, I can either tear up my passport (not a good idea) or I can vote for someone who would listen and act on what I want for my country (i.e I want to exit the EU before it takes us over).
Criticise me all you like, call me a Little Englander if you like, I am proud of my "little" country and I am sticking to my opinion.
I say EXIT the undemocratic, corrupt, unaccountable EU.

We may just get a referendum on the EU if the Tories get in, as most of them are anti EU. Thank God.

More empty rhetoric from the Tories. Why won't they promise to pull Britain out of the EU?
