YET ANOTHER ROCKY DAY FOR BROWN

Story Image

Gordon Brown faced more attacks today

Monday May 12,2008

By Julia White for express.co.uk

GORDON BROWN faced yet another turbulent day today as his leadership continued to look increasingly doomed.

The beleaguered Prime Minister faced strong opposition in the House of Commons as he began his fight to pass controversial legislation to widen the scope of embryo research.

Brown is arguing that the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill is needed to enable vital medical research into treatment for conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, cancer and heart disease.

But some of the provisions in the Bill - most notably the creation of hybrid or "admix" embryos through the combination of animal eggs and human nuclei  but also so-called “saviour” siblings - have proved highly controversial.

Opposing Labour ministers are expected to revolt this evening over the vote.

The unrest comes just hours after Brown was caught in the centre of a Labour civil war as he faced a scathing attack from former minister Frank Field.

Field provoked anger among Cabinet ministers by saying he would be “very surprised” if the Prime Minister lasted another two years in the job.

The former welfare reform minister said the premier was visibly unhappy in his position, describing it as a “tragedy”.

Mr Field, a long-time foe of Mr Brown and who has led the backbench revolt over the abolition of the 10p income tax rate, predicted the next election would be held at the latest possible opportunity, in 2010.

“I would be very surprised if he’s still the leader of the Labour Party then and therefore leading us into the election campaign,” he said.

But tonight Downing Street insisted that Brown was confident of leading Labour into the next general election.

His spokesman said: “What the Prime Minister is focusing on is the business of government and the big issues that are facing the country.”

Asked whether the premier was confident he would lead Labour into the next election, the spokesman added: “Of course he is.”

ROCKY MCBROON

13.05.08, 11:24am

No, I don't think that Brown can last out. Nu Labour has taken away too many freedoms, and has imposed too many restrictive laws on us to last much longer. The people will not stand for gross interference of this kind, we are slow to react, but when we do.....!

YET ANOTHER ROCKY DAY FOR BROWN

13.05.08, 7:43am

Gordon Brown MUST stay in post until the next election in order to provide the Tories with the best possible pre election political publicity that they could ever wisah for.

Then we might just get a Government that will "Bat for Britain and the British People" first and foremost.

As far as Embryology is concerned , I applaud those Scientists who are capable of undertaking such research but I am less sure about a Governments ability (particularly the current administration) to properly legislate and control such experimentation.

Debacle after Debacle comes to mind over the past 11 years and we could easily be heading for the real Frankenstein scenario.

BROWN'S ROCKY DAY ? READ ON - THE CRACKS ARE WIDENING FOR LABOUR

12.05.08, 10:25pm

These rocky days are not just for Brown, the are also for Labour and its left wing attitude. They got in on a promise to change to a party with a new look, now after a long time in power they have revealed their true character and shown that they have not changed at all. We were fooled but now we know what they are up to..

They want :
All of us in council houses.
All of us on public transport.
All our banks nationalised.
Our food under their control.
Left wing control of our lives.
State controlled police who act as gods..
Union power to be absolute - STRIKE - STRIKE -STRIKE.
Our money to be theirs -TAX - TAX - TAX.
A war on any class of people other than their own, In other words if you have a brain or an IQ better than theirs you are not to be allowed to use it in case you make them look stupid.

In effect they want a dictatorship like CHAVEZ has in spite of the fact that we will not wear such rubbish in this country. Note that Brown has not said very much about human rights in other countries.

FOOTNOTE:

An example of this is a Labour Mayoress called Ludlow who together with her consort and a friend were recently arrested by Police for attacking a property with an axe and a baseball bat. This occurrence happened in Derbyshire in at a place called Poolsbrook. No details were released but bail was imposed by Police. This is reported in the local press by two newspapers.

YET ANOTHER GOOD DAY FOR THE COUNTRY..

12.05.08, 10:05pm

If Brown is under attack from all sides this can only be a good thing for the rest of us who want to see the back of the man who ruined this country as chancellor, sold off our worth and hitched up our taxes and then had the nerve to walk into number 10 like he actually belonged there and the people wanted him.

It would be a cold day in hell before I would ever vote for any of those worthless labour orwellian jumped up little bottom feeders and can only hope that their own constiuents show the same contempt for them the rest of the country feels.

Shame on you voters of Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath, Camberwell and Peckham , Kingston upon Hull West & Hessle, Blackburn,
Normanton, Doncaster North, South Shields,
Redditch, Don Valley etc, etc, etc.
When your homes are being repossessed, when you can't afford to put petrol in your car or put your heating on, just remember the x you put in the box.

BROWN MUST GIVE A FREE VOTE ON EMBRYO BILL

12.05.08, 8:47pm

If Brown wants to know why he is the most disrespected PM of all time, then he should look at the embryo bill. Always in the past, such matters were decided by a free vote of MPs. But not with Gordon; he knows he would lose a free vote and so he whips the poor Labour MPs through. Why not drop this bill? Not a civilized country in the world allows the creation of part human part animal embryos, in fact no country except that evil regime in China. Enough said.
