FALKIRK SNAP UP MCNAMARA

McNAMARA: Fantastic professional

Tuesday May 13,2008

FALKIRK manager John Hughes last night pulled off a massive coup by snapping up former Celtic team-mate Jackie McNamara on a two-year deal.

On a busy day for the Bairns boss, he also landed freed Hibs youngster Dermot McCaffrey on a three-year contract as he quickly begins his rebuilding for next season.

McNamara, 34, left Aberdeen last month after a reported dressing-room blast at Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood only nine months since arriving from Wolves.

The 33-capped ex-Scotland internationalist endured an injury-hit season and travel problems from his Edinburgh home, meaning he was on the look-out for a new club in the central belt.

Hughes, a huge admirer of McNamara since they started their Celtic careers together in the same season in 1995, has now quickly tied him up after getting his board’s backing.

The Bairns chief believes the right-sided player is the perfect experienced acquisition to help nurture his talented youthful side in the new campaign. He said: "I’ve signed Jackie McNamara and Dermot McCaffrey and I’m absolutely delighted. "Jackie is a player I played with. The two of us started around the same time together at Celtic. He’s a fantastic professional, a right good player.”

It was also revealed last night that midfield terrier Patrick Cregg has agreed a 1 year contract extension.

Cregg, who has been with the club for two and a half years, said  “I am really happy at Falkirk, the club and the manager have been brilliant with me since I signed.”
