QUEEN BEGINS TURKEY STATE VISIT
The Queen is beginning a state visit to Turkey.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are beginning a four-day state visit to Turkey.
The royal trip follows an invitation from President Abdullah Gul to visit the country and comes more than 36 years since the monarch and Philip last visited the secular Islamic republic.
The Queen and the Duke will lay a wreath at the tomb of Mustafa Kemal, the founder of modern Turkey, in the capital Ankara.
The royal couple will also formally meet the president at his palace, where his wife Hayrunnisa is expected to wear a controversial Islamic headscarf for the first time at an official event.
The move is likely to be seen as against Turkish law as headscarves are banned in public buildings and government offices and will antagonise the country's military who are defenders of Turkey's secular heritage.
In the evening a state banquet will be held in the Queen's honour.
The tour comes less than six months since the Prince of Wales visited Turkey and highlights the importance of Britain's relationship with the country.
Turkey is stepping up its campaign to join the European Union - a move which is supported by the UK.
The country has been pushing to become a member of the EU for many decades, becoming an official candidate in 1999 followed by formal accession negotiations in October 2005.
Geographically Turkey straddles both the east and west and is seen as an important ally for the international community in the fight against terrorism and the spread of Muslim extremists. In recent years it has also led the International Security Assistance Force fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan.
AND THE PROBLEM IS????

I think Turkey being let into the EU would be a positive thing.
It would show the rest of europe and the world that it is not a 'christian club'.
I also believe having an Islamic country, which is very secular and modern would benefit us.
Everyone keeps going on about the 60 million Turks that will invade 'our' country.
Any right minded Turk would not want to leave that beautiful country and come to a wet and rainy UK unless they are desperat.
And the fact people keep saying 60 million muslim's can be deemed racist.
When it suites the British, Turkey is a allay, when they need to use there air space, soliders or anything to do with nato, Turkey is the UKs friend, but in this case it seems they are the enamy/
I would like Turkwy in the EU as they have a lot to offer, but i hope Turkey pull out as they are better off out of thebig hole know as the EU.

On reading another article though, it says that there will be 70 million + from Turkey who will be able to live here if the country is allowed to join the EU.
More money from British coffers to support another countrys economy, while ours slips rapidly down the crapper!
Hitler must be laughing his bits off, if he can see what is happening.... the UK being run by the other countries in Europe, Germany being one of them....
All done without a shot fired, the country invaded by train, boat and cheap bloody plane fares...
And we house and support the buggers..... free gratis.... all found, yet our old people live in poverty, cos the utility companies are owned by foreign companies.
You honestly couldn't make this up.

GEORGE BUSH SUPPORTS THIS?

And what the hell has this to do with him?
Would he put his signature to a treaty that would allow 60 million + muslims into HIS country?
Like hell he would! And neither should we! We have more than enough people here as it it without giving carte blanche for more to come here - legally!
I also say lets get out of the EU now! Norway & Switzerland are in Europe and appear to be *surviving* without all of the EU bureaucrats interference, and I doubt they have the problems we do with uncontrolled immigration.
Last thing, I must say our Queen looks fabulous in the photo - and I'm not a dyed in the wool royalist!
I just think she does us proud wherever she goes to represent us.
The same cannot be said for Tony B Liar and Jock McBroon - they have turned our country into the laughing stock of the world, with all of their PC nonsense and Mickey Mouse laws, and have virtually bankrupted our country - both morally and financially.
End of rant.......

Well said Peter Pan. Britain should leave the EU asap. Turkey in the EU is sheer bl**dly madness. The idea is supported by George Bush, Tony Blair and Angela Merkel - that says it all.

"Turkey is stepping up its campaign to join the European Union - a move which is supported by the UK"
Let Turkey join if it is stupid enough to do so.
What Great Britain should be doing is stepping up its campaign to leave.
Are you listening Mr Brown?
