Ministers were urged to urgently investigate why Nazamuddin Mohammidy has been allowed to work as a contract cleaner at British Airways.

Mohammidy, 34, was one of nine gun-toting refugees who hijacked a jet with 173 passengers  in Afghanistan eight years ago and ordered the pilot to fly to England.

At Stansted, the gang – armed with guns and grenades – threatened to blow up the Boeing 737 unless they were allowed to claim political asylum to stay in the UK.

After a tense four-day siege, the hijackers finally surrendered, realising they were surrounded by SAS.

Although convicted and jailed, the gang were controversially freed after the Court of Appeal decided they had been acting under duress as they fled the Taliban.

Despite this, MPs are still concerned that Mohammidy was able to get a job which could give him access to British Airways’ offices near the biggest international airport in Britain.
