JACKIE DESHANNON: HER OWN KIND OF LIGHT

Story Image

Jackie Deshannon in the 1970s

By Emily Garnham for express.co.uk

JACKIE Deshannon is pioneering songwriter, responsible for Marianne Faithful hit Come and Stay With Me and The Searchers When You Walk In The Room.

Her Own Kind Of Light is a collection of Deshannon’s compositions she wrote between the 1960s and 1980s.

Many were made famous by big names in the music industry. You'll recognise Bette Davis Eyes from the current Clairol advert, sung by Kim Carnes.

Track-by-track notes where Deshannon picks her highlights and recalls her various muses written accompany this ‘best of’ collection and add a personal touch.

It’s an upbeat, catchy and toe-tapping collection of classic tunes and folky soulful ballads with a dated, or should I say, retro sound.

She doesn’t have an exceptionally powerful voice but it’s loaded with feeling.

Recordings feature future Led Zeppelin co-founder Jimmy Page and legendary folk rockers The Byrds.
