In contrast, the demographic shift will continue to accelerate, particularly because two-thirds of immigrants hail from Asia and Africa and their families tend to have far higher birth rates than the indigenous population. In the coming years, the wail of the mosque and the sound of gunfire will become ever louder in urban Britain.

The Labour Government is often accused of “incompetence” on immigration, as if the collapse of our borders was the result of a ministerial oversight. But this is a mistaken belief. In truth, Labour’s promotion of unprecedented levels of migration has been a cynical, deliberate strategy designed to alter permanently the structure of our nation.

The gang of socialist ideologues who have been in charge of Britain for the past decade have never been concerned with the national interest. They have been obsessed with refashioning society.

The British Left used to dream of achieving revolution through economic means, by wholesale redistribution of wealth, trade union power and nationalisation of swathes of the economy.

That dream died in the Seventies, when Britain was crippled by widespread industrial action and economic paralysis, pav­ing the way for the era of Thatcherism.

But Left-wingers did not give up the determination to trans­form Britain. So they switched their focus from the economy to demography, planning to use mass immigration as a battering ram against the culture and traditions of Britain.

It should be remembered that most middle-class socialists despise their own country. Devoid of any feelings of patriotism, they regard the Union flag as a symbol of xenophobia and our island story as one long tale of oppression and racism.

George Orwell wrote in 1941 that ours “is perhaps the only great country whose intellect­uals are ashamed of their
own nationality. In Left-wing circles, it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman”.

That attitude has been elev­ated into a system of governance under Labour, where the institutionalised dogma of
cultural diversity has been used to undermine British nationhood, where expressions of national pride are treated with suspicion by the politically correct agencies of the State.

Labour has tried to cover up this radical agenda by trumpeting the supposed economic advantages of mass immigration. But as a recent House of Lords committee demon­strated, there has been no real improvement in living standards, while public services are under enormous strain and welfare bills have soared.

The absurdity of the Govern­ment’s economic argument is exposed by the fact that unemployment in migrant communities is far higher than in the indigenous population. Thirty five per cent of Muslim households are without jobs – more than twice the national average.

Indeed, the high rates of joblessness among ethnic minorities are the justification for the vast anti-discrimination industry that has been created in modern Britain, full of outreach schemes, task forces, new deals, specialist employment advisers and training posts reserved for black or Asian candidates.

The mythical claim about immigrants’ productivity is just another nasty way for social revolutionaries to attack the British working class, summed up by the disgraceful remarks of liberal commentator Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. 

She described white working-class Britons as “indolent scroungers on their couches drinking beer and watching TV” who are “too lazy or too expensive to compete” in a multi-racial economy. 

But the narrow economic issue is far outweighed by the wider consequences of mass immigration. Britain is a country plagued by gun crime, gangland warfare and Islamic terrorism. We have the highest rates of drug abuse and violent crime in Europe. Our once sturdy democracy is tainted by widespread fraud at the ballot box, largely driven by politically ambitious Asians.

A judge recently described one set of municipal elections in Birming­ham as like something “out of a banana republic”.
The shadow of Third World diseases, such as Aids and tuberculosis, hangs over us, while 350,000 people in Britain are estimated to be chronically infected with hepatitis B virus.

In the name of liberal tolerance towards migrants, we have allowed our civic culture to be infected by superstition, discrimination and misogyny, reflected in the vile practice of forced marriage. Our towns and cities are overcrowded. Our public infrastructure is buckling under the pressure.

Labour has certainly succeeded in its goal of changing Britain. And it should never be forgiven for doing so.
