POLICE reform will lead to even more officers being replaced with “plastic bobbies” and backroom staff, a senior officer warned yesterday.

Chief Superintendent Ian Johnston told the Police Federation’s annual conference that trials of civilian replacements were “doomed to succeed”.

The forecast came as figures showed that fewer than half of the public believe police can be relied on to deal with minor crimes, or are there when needed.

Chief Supt Johnston said civilians such as Community Support Officers would continue to take over police roles.

haha all our brirish bobbies are out fighting so called 'hate crime'. What a load of tosh! You know the streets are crawling with paedows, rapists and yobbish binge drinkers. Time to act now!

Instead of putting more police on the beat they let then be pcso's and anyone can be one of them, they even let them wear their turbans!

On the subject of the Yorkshire Ripper, I think it was more the old fashioned card index system that they had instead of a computer that allowed Peter Sutcliffe to remain at large for so long. Despite being interviewed several times and his mentally retarded wife giving him an alibi they also had the human error factor of a pride driven copper who honestly believed that he had personal communication with a vicious hoaxer.

Mind you, if it had not been for two coppers routinely stopping him that fortuitus night, he would have continued murdering. Same thing that eventually caught the Black Panther, Donald Neilson, were two coppers stopping someone suspicious.

In conclusion yes, we need more coppers and more intelligence.

There are just too many people period..........whose fault was that when in came more criminals have been imported which has now become our problem.If this government had not been so keen on importing voters we would not have a lot of the problems we have and had they reined in the do gooders with their fancy ill conceived ideas we would not have so many of the problems we have today it could have been contained had this governed and not interferred sending it all belly-up as usual

Ian Bliar gets a bonus for falling crime so he has a vested interest in crimes like children chalking on the pavement being solved,it is easier for the pcs than arresting genujine villains and less dangerous,He is obviously aware that the pcs are making trivilal arrests because they are all valuable ticks in boxes.
He gets his bonus from falling car crime,car manufacturers have made it harder to steal cars but he interprets it for his own ends on his policing methods.

No we do not need more PCs we have enough of them now, what we do need is 'Three strikes and out' law, the 5% of the population that is committing 95% of crime need to be permanent residence at HMP. We can then reduce the number of PCs and the victims of criminals.
