BROWN'S 'GLOBAL' EXCUSE ADDS FUEL TO OUR FIGHT

Friday May 23,2008

GORDON BROWN was happy to take the credit when the economy was doing well. But now times are tough he wants to blame “global” factors beyond his control.

Mr Brown would like people to believe that he cannot do anything about the rise in petrol and diesel prices.

While the massive rise in world oil prices is the prime factor behind the recent surge in prices at the pumps, it does not follow that the Government is powerless to intervene.

Taxes still make up the bulk of the cost of every litre of fuel sold. Mr Brown is doing well out of fuel duty and VAT.

He is doing even better out of North Sea Oil Tax – the levy the Government takes from the production of Britain’s own black gold.

The higher the oil price goes, the more money it makes. Mr Brown is currently raking in a £6billion windfall – enough to cut fuel duty by 12p a litre and still hit Treasury revenue targets.

So it is not true that he can’t help motorists: it is simply that he won’t help them. Once again he is demonstrating his fatal flaw as a politician – his mistaken belief that the State can spend people’s money better than they can.

Given a free hand he will always favour the State over the public when it comes to dividing the nation’s wealth. That’s why he must not be allowed a free hand and why this newspaper is crusading for a reduction in tax on fuel.

Mr Brown can try to distance himself from the plight of motorists all he likes. But just as the Daily Express and its magnificent readers forced his hand over death duty, so we shall force his hand over fuel duty too.

GORDON HASN'T THE CHUTZPAH TO BE FORTHRIGHT

23.05.08, 4:31pm

All nations are feeling the pinch these days; however, the UK more so, because of Comrade Gordon’s insatiable greed. To boot, Gordon hasn’t the chutzpah or you-knows to stand up and admit it is his socialist, fiscal policies that have driven our economy into a state of utter crisis. Brown and his politburo loathe the working folks, those whom contribute to the social and fiscal wellbeing of this nation; instead opting to prop up the idle layabouts, whilst taxing the aforementioned into extinction. Whether it is petrol, trash-bins or so-forth Gordon and his fellow comrades have and continue to levy taxes without conscience.
There was a time; a blink of an eye ago, that Gordon’s inherent unscrupulousness meant naught to him and his party. After all he and his loathsome sort were safe in the polls… hence, more taxes upon taxes were brought to the fore. Now, Comrade Gordon is betraying his true colours… yellow… this poor excuse for a man and PM doesn’t have the courage to admit; it is he, who, in great part, is responsible for putting this nation into a social and fiscal nosedive.
It will take years, perhaps decades, to undo the overt ruin this man and his predecessor have done to this nation: he and his comrades will never owe up to this fact; however, this comes as no surprise.
