HAULIERS TAKE FUEL PROTEST TO PM

Hauliers are to stage a protest in London over soaring fuel prices

Tuesday May 27,2008

Hauliers have taken their fuel protest to London in an attempt to get the Government to reduce prices at the pump.

With their lorry horns blaring and carrying placards, the hauliers lined up along a specially-closed section of the A40 close to the heart of the capital.

First to arrive was Jose Girvan, 36, from Ruislip, Middlesex, who is a driver with transport services company KJS based at Iver, Buckinghamshire.

Talking alongside his cab as motorists passing by hooted their support, Mr Girvan said: "Prices are just getting higher and higher and higher. The Government has got to cut the duty on diesel, they really must do something."

Organisers were hoping that as many as 600 to 1,000 lorries would eventually line up along the A40 which was closed on the eastbound carriageway between White City and Edgware Road in west London.

The hauliers are due to stage a rally at Marble Arch and then later a delegation was handing a letter in at 10 Downing Street.

Earlier, a convoy of around 90 hauliers had set off from the Medway Services on the A2 in Kent.

It was thought that about 150 lorries travelled in from Essex and about 100 from Bedfordshire, with truckers also expected from many other parts of the country.

FUEL

27.05.08, 5:55pm

It did no good in 2000 and unless the country is brought to a total halt Brown won't care at all and then possibly not. He has got us into such a bad state that he will be totally unable to forego any money-not even any of the massive windfall he is getting due to the rising prices. If he has any sense he will transfer the VED into the fuel price. Foreign wagon drivers will then also pay as they drive.

I SUSPECT THIS IS THE START OF SOMETHING MUCH BIGGER TO COME IN THE WEEKS AHEAD FROM DISGRUNTLED TRUCKERS

27.05.08, 5:32pm

Of course, Dictator Prudence U-Turn Brown WILL NOT SANCTION ANY REDUCTION IN FUEL TAX for the truckers or anyone else.

The battle lines are being drawn - as was witnessed today when the truckers in South Wales were outnumbered by riot police.

It will not be long before Joe Public says "enough is enough" - and the Jarrow March will look pretty tame to compared to the next uprising.

THE FUEL PROTEST.

Yes, good luck to the hauliers and any others who took part. I just hope this opens the floodgates, and we English can learn from the more gutsy French, who, when upset by government stupidity, simply have a major strilke or a blockade. It's often works - but they do not do things irresponsibly, like English left wingers.

BEST OF LUCK TO THEM,

but if Brown and Darling take any notice of this, I'll eat my hat. If they do act, it'll only be some quick fix to placate people.

I used to be a reasonably optimistic bloke eleven years ago.
