Ewan rules out sequel

HOPES for a sequel to the classic 1996 film Trainspotting have been dashed as its star Ewan McGregor says he is not a fan of author Irvine Welsh’s follow-up to his cult novel about Scottish low life, on which the film was based.

“It was mindblowing what it did,” says the Scottish-born Star Wars actor of the movie, which co-starred Robert Carlyle and Kelly Macdonald.

“I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking, ‘Yeah, here we go!’ It was extraordinary for lots of reasons, mostly for being in my early 20s during the mid-Nineties, when it was all Oasis and Blur and Trainspotting.”

But he adds: “There has always been talk of a sequel but I was disappointed with the book, Porno, that lrvine wrote afterwards – it was like he wrote a sequel to the movie.

"I would hate to damage Trainspotting. It would be awful to damage the reputation of that film.”
