HOW COCOA HELPS SAVE LIVES
COCOA: Three cups a day could slash the risk of heart disease
By Victoria Fletcher, Health Editor
SIPPING three cups of cocoa a day could help to tackle diabetes as well as slash the risk of heart disease, a study has found.
Scientists have discovered compounds in cocoa that can repair blood vessels and boost circulation.
The naturally-occurring antioxidants – known as flavanols – are also present in green tea, red wine and some fruit and vegetables.
The average person consumes between 20 and 100mg of flavanols a day – too few to have any medical effect.
Now a team in Germany has created a special cocoa drink containing 321mg of flavanols per serving.
The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, found that patients with type 2 diabetes who drank three cups a day of the cocoa saw their blood vessel function return to normal within a month.
But Dr Malte Kelm of University Hospital Aachen in Germany, who led the study, warned that ordinary cocoa or chocolate would not have the same effect.
He said: “Dietary flavanols might have an important impact as part of a healthy diet in the prevention of cardiovascular complications in diabetic patients.
“But this study is not about urging those with diabetes to eat more chocolate.”

Go to work on an egg. Then eggs were supposed to be bad for us.

One of the main ingredients used to make a real cup of cocoa is milk, and milk is fattening (cocoa with skimmed milk is revolting). One of the major causes of heart disease is the intake of fatty food, yet here we are being told to consume three cups of cocoa a day, a drink that is 85% milk.
Am I missing something here, or is this a conflicting message?
I'll stick to my cuppa thanks.

ANOTHER SCIENTIFIC CON

Why do we listen to what scientists and their so-called studies have to say?
The bottom line is that ordinary cocoa won't work. Yes, pump it and any other food product with enough flavanoids and there might be something beneficial coming out of it.
