EXPRESS COMMENT
LET PEOPLE POWER ALERT BROWN TO FUEL DUTY RAGE
THE response of Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling to the fuel price crisis is utterly pathetic.
The Prime Minister and Chancellor clearly think drivers should wait patiently until October and then fall to their knees in gratitude if the scheduled duty rise of 2p a litre is postponed.
These men have been sitting in the back of ministerial limousines for far too long and are completely out of touch with the plight of families up and down the land.
The cost of diesel and petrol is one of the main factors behind the fall in living standards. What Britain’s motorists require is action this day.
A duty freeze is not good enough anyway. Only a substantial duty cut will make a real difference to motorists and demonstrate that those in power are on their side.
This newspaper has already shown that the Treasury is netting a fortune in extra revenue from North Sea Oil Tax and VAT receipts on forecourt sales.
When the majority of the price of a litre of fuel is made up of taxes, it is ridiculous for Mr Brown to whine about OPEC.
Were he a decent PM, he would accept his own responsibility to act. But bitter experience has taught us that he is
not – so we must force his hand.
To this end, the Daily Express today produces a coupon for its magnificent army of readers to fill in and return, calling for a major fuel duty cut.
We will pass them on to Downing Street by the sackful.
A coupon blitz worked with death duty, forcing Labour into a major retreat. It can work for fuel duty, too.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE LABOUR POO?

I've read some of the comments on here since I last posted and while some were amusing I have to say that some were very valid.
While I agree that we need to curb the green house gases we produce and that world demand on fuel will create a shortage we also have to look at the wider picture. Our government currently places a tax that’s as high as 65% on fuel. 65%. Work it out. The average cost of fuel is now 114.9p per litre. Minus 65% of that the fuel actually costs 40.2p per litre. Can anyone here actually justify 74.6p per litre in tax because I can’t. I know that all of it doesn't go to the treasury as I think 16% of that goes to the EU for whatever reason.
If the government really want to save money then they should start with pulling us out of the EU and place the real power back into the public’s hands as well as save them a couple of thousand pounds per year per household. Next they should cut government spending. It's widely known that they just throw money at projects without any serious thought or proper planning. Look at the Millennium Dome and the NHS and mass CCTV installation. The NHS has just confirmed a 'delay' in its project to computerise medical records. What’s the point of that? Aren't they already using computers anyway? What’s the point of blowing 12.7 billion pounds on such a system?
I'm having real difficulty in understanding what Labour is doing and how far they are willing to go. It’s as though they’re deliberately trying to cause the nation problems so that when the next government come in they’ll have a mountain of problems to deal with that will make that government party look bad thus putting labour back in the publics eyes as the better choice. I don’t know, perhaps it’s just my mind working out conspiracies. Sooner or later everything will come to a head and I’m guessing that the Poll tax riots will look like a bad, bad day at Glastonbury compared to what will happen once the nations frustrations come out.
Perhaps what we should do as a nation is organise a mass protest whereby we all stop using our cars for at least a week. Obviously if we all do that then businesses can’t function no one will be at there place of work costing the treasury more money than it would cost to cut fuel duty and scrap their plans for the new road tax system and the proposed EU backed road pricing scheme.

FUEL PRICES

Its not just this goverment to blame, its every one since the seventies. We had the threat of fuel restrictions then. You might have thought they would have had the foresight to invest heavily in alternative fuels but no England plods along with the status quo, wasting millions on schemes such as delorean and the dome.

THE PARASITES GREED

This collection beats the leeches hands down. when the leech is satiated, it drops off. These totally insensitive fruits just keep finding new places to suck on. Why don't we start thinking about national strikes?. Sure it's drastic - and many might be financially strapped - but the actions and ignorance these b.....ds cram down our throats are drastic - and painful, and desperate, and destructive. Something has to give. They might be an immovable object, but we could be an irresistable force. Think about it.

YES THE TORIES DO WAFFLE BUT.........

Thanks for your comment Emigrant. My hostility towards Jeff Hoon probably stems from his role as Defence Minister during the Iraq war. My general view is that all politicians, irrespective of party, are a cartload of monkeys. That said, before I purchased a second-hand car from the Tories I would first check the vehicle (and the warranty small print) very carefully indeed. However I would not even consider buying a second-hand car from NuLabour.
