PRAGUE HOLDS NO FEARS FOR SCOTLAND

PASSIONATE: George Burley

Friday May 30,2008

By Andy McInnes

Bullish George Burley has blasted a warning that Scotland will go into tonight’s clash against the Czech Republic with ‘’ no fear and no worries’’.

Despite his squad being hit by call-offs the international boss is determined  to have a ‘’passionate and spirited go ‘’ at the Euro 2008-bound Czechs who are ranked among the world’s top ten.

And as he put his patchwork pool through their paces at training in Prague last night Burley insisted  it would be a time for his many young and inexperienced players to stand up and be counted .

He regards the game as a vital preparation match for the nation ahead of the start of the qualifiers in September rather than a friendly..

‘’All the players who are with us are fit and looking lively . We are left with 18 healthy and keen lads who are all desperate to play and stake their claim for a place in the World Cup Qualifiers’’ he declared.

‘’Yes, we are missing a full team of players but we can’t do anything about that so our intention is to get the best out of what we have got and be very competitive on the night.

‘’ There are no fears or worries. We will go out there and express ourselves ,work our socks off and try to get the right result  .

‘’I have players with big hearts who are hungry to do well.It is enjoyable working with a group like that and that is why I’ve no fears going into this one.

‘’We have still got an abundance of talent and the nucleus of an exciting young squad so we will try to use that to our advantage against the Czechs.

‘’You can only pick the players available to you but when I look at the squad  I see we still have a good blend . We are a bit shot in the striking department but I have always said our strongest area is midfield so we will try and utilise that to help out in attack.

‘’This is not a friendly as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very important preparation game ahead of the World Cup campaign itself. This is a vital test for us against a top quality team and it will be a great learning process for everyone.

‘’A lot of the players have something to prove by showing they are good enough to keep their place at international level.”
