LABOUR URGES ACTION ON EXTREMISM

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has urged action to combat extremism

Tuesday June 3,2008

Town halls should consider mapping their areas religion by religion to help combat Muslim extremism, the Government suggested.

Guidance to local councils suggested the move as part of a wide-ranging package to identify and challenge Islamists, including a new national "de-radicalisation" programme.

The scheme will seek to reverse the process of indoctrination carried out by al Qaida-related extremists, using unnamed "specialised techniques".

The document also said councils should make sure they have systems to remove funding or other support from inappropriate groups.

The guidelines said: "A deeper understanding of local communities should be developed to help inform and focus the programme of action - this may include mapping denominational backgrounds and demographic and socio-economic factors."

Local groups that challenge the messages of violent extremists should be supported, it went on.

But councils should be prepared to ask police to vet anyone involved in projects that receive government anti-radicalisation funding, it urged.

If a group is found to be promoting violent extremism, local agencies and the police should consider disrupting or removing funding, and deny access to public facilities, the document added.

The Home Office announced an extra £12.5 million will be available this year specifically to help institutions or individuals which may be vulnerable to radicalisation.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said: "We are investing at local level to build resilient communities, which are equipped to confront violent extremism and support the most vulnerable individuals."

THE DAY NULABOUR DOES ANYTHING TO HELP THE MOST VULNERABLE IN SOCIETY, WILL BE THE DAY PIGS FLY

03.06.08, 7:06pm

Heard a whisper today that Jacqui Smith is being touted to replace Dictator Prudence U-Turn Unelected Brown as Prime Minister.

God help us.

She is tarred with the same "gift-of-the-gab" brush as the rest of her devious cronies in the House of Conmen.

WHERE IS OUR EU REFERENDUM?

WHERE ARE THE POLICE ON OUR STREETS?

WHERE ARE OUR CLEAN HOSPITALS?

WHERE ARE THE CRIMINALS? THEY ARE DEFINITELY NOT IN PRISON - MOST ARE SLOUCHING AROUND IN SW1A 0AA.

SOUNDS DODGY.

03.06.08, 2:12pm

Surely they can't be saying this type of thing about mapping areas. It sounds as if they are going to interfere with someones human rights and is the phrase " Muslim Extremism" not illegal to use nowadays.

THEY USED TO BE CALLED GHETTOS

03.06.08, 9:53am

What on earth is this Labour tribe of numpties up to now? Are they trying to map out the future ghettos prior to the final solution? This is rich coming from the party who permitted mass immigration after WWII and who are the author of all the stupid PC regulations in the UK. Don't blame the EU for this as the other individual countries don't seem to have any problem addressing what the UK can turn into a crisis. This government has a completely lack of ideas in how to handle this and any other problem of it's own making, other than new legislation. I suppose that's what happens when you've been led and told what to do, and think, by by one individual for ten years...and some say bring back Tony, no thanks.

THE RELIGION OF PEACE AGAIN?

03.06.08, 9:41am

The problem of terrorists breeding amongst us exists only because of shamefully misguided government policies since the 1950's. All post-war governments have encouraged continual waves of immigrants to set up home here despite the wishes of the original islanders and therefore are directly responsible for deliberately importing the seeds of dissention. As correctly predicted by Enoch Powell, the small acorns have grown into large oak trees. Our governments should be ashamed of themselves.

EXTREMISM???

03.06.08, 9:28am

Is there a more extremist force in Britain, that is bent on doing more damage to Britain than the New Labour Party??. I do not think so. Give us a general election and we will deal with the the most potent and dangerous extremists this country has ever witnessed.

Get rid of Labour and the EU.

THEY IMPORTED IT INTO OUR COUNTRY

03.06.08, 8:31am

It amazes me how Labour tell people they will take action while Labour are the ones who imported the problem into our country. Even our greatest leader Winston Churchill warned us of the threat from Islam and now we're paying the price for not listening to him!
