Joan Rivers mourns pooch

Joan Rivers is mourning the loss of her Boston terrier Lulu, who was suffering from cancer.

The pooch had a rear leg amputated and underwent chemotherapy in a bid to beat the disease but it spread to her lungs.

The American comedienne, who celebrates her 75th birthday on Sunday, resorted to desperate measures to save her beloved pet.

Confesses Joan: “When we were alone in my apartment I spent 10 minutes laying on hands the way healers do. I would touch Lulu all over and say ‘Heal’ and ‘Feel The Heat’.

“I must have looked like a total loony tune but I had just watched the movie Elmer Gantry and I figured that if Burt Lancaster could do it so could I.”

But it was to no avail and the dog had to be put down earlier this week.

“I’m sure, however, that she is now in a place where she can bark all she wants, lick all she likes, chew yellow tennis balls to her heart’s content and feast on a never-ending bowl of delicious liver treats,” says Joan.

She adds sadly: “Lulu shared my bed and my heart for 12 wonderful years. The thing that I will treasure and miss the most is that she is the only dog I ever had who truly smiled.”
