Five people appeared in court over Amar Aslam's murder

Thursday June 5,2008

Four boys and a man have appeared in court charged with the murder of teenager Amar Aslam.

Amin Hussain Ali, 20, from Dewsbury, a boy aged 16 and three boys aged 15 are accused of killing 17-year-old Amar, who died of head injuries in Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury on May 25.

They also faced charges of his robbery after stealing £10, a silver chain and a mobile phone.

The five defendants were flanked by four prison officers as they sat in the dock at Leeds Crown Court.

Ali and the four boys were remanded into custody until August 15, when they will next appear at the same court for a plea and case management hearing.

Ali was remanded into Doncaster Prison, while the four youths were held at Wetherby male juvenile centre.

The trial, which is expected to last four to five weeks, should take place in September, the judge said.

There were no applications for bail for any of the defendants.

The Recorder of Leeds, Peter Collier QC, told the court: "The primary requirement is finding a trial judge who can take the case as soon as possible."

Three juveniles also arrested in connection with the incident have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
