Guns N’ Roses stayed on the right side of Spinal Tap – but only just.

They steered clear of goblins and guitar solos, but never got beyond the pomposity of a stadium act.

It took the arrival of Nirvana to restore to rock real personality and edge and the contrast between the two bands demonstrated “how to” and “how not to” beautifully.

This gets a Father’s Day release.
