FOREST STEP UP BID FOR MCCORMACK

Ross McCormack: Lots of clubs talking to his agents

Saturday June 7,2008

By Scott Burns

NOTTINGHAM FOREST last night tabled an improved offer to land Scotland new boy Ross McCormack - as Mark McGhee made a last gasp attempt to keep him at Motherwell.

The 21-year-old striker, who made his international debut against the Czech Republic, turned down a contract from the Championship new boys last month but Colin Calderwood came back in and upped the ante last night.

The out-of-contract Motherwell star also has a deal on the table from Premiership Wigan and is aware of strong interest from Spain and other English Championship outfits but wants his future thrashed out over the next fortnight.

McCormack said: “I now have offers on the table from Wigan and Nottingham Forest.

“There is also interest from a number of other Championship clubs and from Spain.  These clubs are talking to my agents just now.

“I am just waiting to see what materialises over the next couple of weeks or so.

“I am due to go on holiday shortly and I want everything sorted by the time I come back.”

The former Rangers youngster also revealed he held fresh talks with Motherwell manager McGhee.

McCormack has re-opened the door but admitted that it still looks a long shot he will return to Fir Park next season for their UEFA Cup campaign.

“I spoke to Mark McGhee on Friday and he said Motherwell want to make me an improved offer, McCormack revealed.

“He  thinks it would benefit my career if I was to stay up here for another season and it would also help me playing in Europe next season.

“I told the gaffer the Wigan deal was still there and after I spoke to him Nottingham Forest came back in.

“Th manager said to me that he could understand my reasons if I went to Wigan or a team abroad but he thought it would be better for my career to stay at Motherwell than to go to a Nottingham Forest or a Norwich.

“I told him I just want to consider all my options and I want to get things sorted out over the next week or so.

“The manager was brand new.

“He knows I have got an important decision to make and hast asked me to let him know of my decision - one way or the other.”
