CHARLIZE'S LONG ROAD TO FAME...

Story Image

Monday June 9,2008

OSCAR-winning actress Charlize Theron may have recently gained US citizenship but she doubts that she’d be where she is today were it not for her tough upbringing in South Africa.

Charlize, 32, who grew up just outside Johannesburg, experienced violence first-hand when, aged 15, she witnessed her mother shoot her abusive father dead.

“There’s something to be said for coming from a country in turmoil,” she tells next month’s GQ magazine.

“It made me resilient. When you come from a harsh landscape you have to get on with it. There’s not a lot of whining about s***.”

Shame not more stars are blessed with such wisdom...
