SWEET-toothed Britons yesterday named the chocolate digestive as their favourite biscuit of all time.

The accolade came just days after McVitie’s chocolate-coated treat was also revealed as the boardroom biscuit of choice for businessmen.

Second in the latest poll was another McVitie’s variety, the Chocolate HobNob. Old-fashioned Walkers shortbread completed the top three.

Other classics also fared well, with custard creams coming in at number five and Jammy Dodgers taking ninth place.

The survey of 5,000 people by online market research company onepoll.com saw chocolate varieties dominate the top 10, with chocolate chip cookies, bourbon creams and Chocolate Fingers all scoring highly.

Fans voted the rich tea biscuit as their favourite dunking variety.

The poll also proved that once we have chosen our favourites we tend to stick with them – more than 16 per cent have been buying the same brand of biscuits for 20 years.

McVitie’s original plain digestive was developed in 1839 by two Scottish doctors to aid digestion. Chocolate was added in 1925 and it instantly became a best-seller.

wow thanks Daily Express . Giving us this heavy weight topic to discuss , this is almost as bad as the mail where they only print the most vacuous and braindead of comments.
