NO REGRETS: Avram Grant believes he did a good job

Monday June 16,2008

AVRAM Grant insists he remains proud of his eight-month reign at Chelsea and claims he made major improvements at the club after taking over from Jose Mourinho.

The history books will show that Grant failed to complete a full season in charge at Stamford Bridge and that he failed to bring silverware to the club.

But Grant believes his players and the team’s style of football made major strides.

And he has tipped his Chelsea predecessor for success in his new job at Inter Milan – but only if he learns from his past mistakes.

Grant was talking in Los Angeles, where he is observing the NBA Finals as a guest of the hometown Lakers. He said he was proud of finishing as runners-up to Manchester United in the Champions League and Premier League and to Tottenham in the Carling Cup.

Grant said: “I am very proud because I saw the development the team made in the eight months. It was amazing in many ways.

“In terms of football, we played a lot better. We came second in the league and got to the Champions League final.”

While Grant is looking for new employment, Mourinho is now planning ahead for his new job in Italy.

But Grant warned it will not be easy for Mourinho as Inter look for a fourth straight title.

Grant said: “It is not true that we are not friends. We were not particular friends before, so we have the same relationship. People tried to cause problems between us, but I don’t have any problems with him. I wish him all the best in Italy.

“Whether he is successful depends. He is a clever guy. He has adapted to other players and if he does the right thing at the right time and learns from the past he can continue.

“It is not easy, but he can do it.”
