Dennis as he entered the house

Police yesterday quizzed a Scottish Big Brother contestant after he was ejected from the programme for allegedly spitting in the face of another housemate.

Dance teacher Dennis McHugh, 23, was spoken to under caution but no further action has been taken at this stage, police said yesterday.

McHugh was thrown out after allegedly spitting in the face of Mohamed Mohamed during a group row.

A Hertfordshire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers have cautioned a 23-year-old man from Edinburgh in connection with an alleged incident. At this stage no further action has been taken. Officers will speak to the potential complainant as and when he leaves the house at some point in the future.”

McHugh, who claimed he made a spitting action but nothing came out of his mouth, was not arrested and did not go to a police station.

Meanwhile student Sylvia Barrie, 21, was booted off the show on Friday night after receiving 90.2 per cent of the public vote against Mohamed.

She remained silent when she heard the result, before hugging fellow contestants in turn and breaking down in tears.

Wearing a black-and-white flowing dress, she was greeted with a chorus of boos as she left the house.

She told host Davina McCall: “I was shocked at first but tried to blank it out.”

The student received nine nominations from her fellow housemates, and said she was most surprised that Luke and Darnell had singled her out.

When showed her pursuit of Stu, who was clearly not interested, the student – who has a boyfriend – said: “I can’t believe I did that” branding it “pure lust”.

She said she understood why Dennis had to be removed from the house.
