HURT: Lampard is not happy

Wednesday July 2,2008

By Tony Banks

FRANK LAMPARD was last night on the verge of quitting Chelsea after contract talks over a massive new £150,000-a-week deal reached deadlock yet again and he was given no reassurances on his future from new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Lampard, who is on holiday in Italy, was expecting to have heard from former Portugal boss Scolari after he started his new job yesterday. But there has been no telephone call or even a suggestion of a meeting – and on Monday Scolari completed his first signing with an £8.5million deal for Portuguese midfielder Deco from Barcelona.

Last night, friends at the club described Lampard as “disillusioned” and thinking seriously about leaving after seven trophy-filled years.

A club source said: “Frank is totally disillusioned by it all. If Scolari had the time to approve the Deco deal, and if he really wanted Frank to be the lynchpin of his team, as has been said, then why has he not contacted him? Frank feels completely let down by the club.”

Meanwhile, Brazilian striker Robinho was night moving closer to becoming Scolari’s next recruit after the Real Madrid forward’s agent claimed he had met Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen to discuss a move to Stamford Bridge.

Robinho’s representative Vagner Ribeiro said: “It’s true that Chelsea are interested in signing Robinho. They have been after him for a while and there has been much more contact since Scolari became the new coach.

“I met with Arnesen in London and he confirmed to me that Chelsea wanted my player for next season.”

Scolari is also after another Barca player, Samuel Eto’o, and there is a possibility that misfit Andriy Shevchenko could go the other way on loan.
