GIRLS ALOUD'S ROYAL DRESSING ROOM

Story Image

Thursday July 3,2008

THE Duchess of Kent suite at Osborne House – Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday home on the Isle of Wight – has an illustrious history.

Not only was it named after its most regular guest, Queen Victoria’s mother, who frequently came to stay but it played host to the French Emperor Napoleon III and his consort Maria when they visited.

It was also the room of choice for King George V and Queen Mary when they stayed at the “palace by the sea” after the the death of Queen Victoria.

Now the famous room is to receive some slightly less aristocratic guests in the form of riotous pop band Girls Aloud, pictured.

The group play a special gig at the English Heritage property on July 27 and have been allocated the suite as a dressing-room.

“If walls could talk, the Duchess of Kent suite would certainly have some tales to tell,” says our man clutching the false eyelashes.

“But quite what the royals who have stayed there in the past would make of Girls Aloud’s vast collection of leotards, stilettos and glitter is anyone’s guess.”

Perhaps Queen Victoria’s most famous phrase, we are not amused?
