Carol Smillie: On Holiday

Thursday July 10,2008

By Gavin Docherty

CAROL Smillie is brushing up her painting skills to be in with a chance of designing the next Status Quo CD.

The Changing Rooms and Postcode Challenge star is on a six-week family holiday in Portugal, where she has daily sessions with an easel and drawing board.

She is set to battle it out with celebrities including Annie Lennox and Kelly Osbourne to design the cover for an album the band are recording for the Prince’s Trust.

The mother of three and former Glasgow School of Art student, who is also an ambassador for the Trust, said: “I have been taking my paper and charcoal down to the beach and sneakily drawing sunbathers.

“Life drawing is my thing, and most people are semi-naked on the beach.”

Carol, 46, renewed her interest in painting in 2005, when she presented the reality series A Brush With Fame, in which amateur artists competed to create portraits of celebrities.
