BOOM IN MIGRANTS FROM NEW EU

Migrants queuing to get into Britain

Thursday April 26,2007

By Tom Whitehead

THE number of Roman-ians and Bulgarians flocking to the UK has almost trebled in a year, new figures show.

Some 60,000 arrived be-tween December and February, compared with 23,000 for the same period the previous year, according to the Office for National Statistics.

During that time, the two Eastern European countries joined the EU on January 1 fuelling fears that our newly open borders will spark a flood of migrants.

Campaigners now claim the number of migrants from the two countries is set to double this year from the 137,000 who arrived in 2006. Experts last night warned it was impossible to say how many have come as visitors but then work on the black market illegally.

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch UK, said: “It looks as though the number of visitors from Romania and Bulgaria will be double that of last year. What we do not know is why they are coming, how long they will stay and nor do we know how many intend to work, legally or illegally.”

The estimates are based on international passenger surveys and do not break down the reasons for coming or planned length of stay.

However, previous ONS statistics have predicted that around one in 10 Eastern Europeans who come to the UK plan to stay for more than three months to work or study.

Home Secretary John Reid has placed a restriction on the number of low-skilled workers allowed in the UK from the two countries to 20,000 a year.

Mr Reid placed the limit in the face of intense demands for controls following the debacle of previous EU expansion.
The Government then predicted no more than 13,000 Eastern Europeans, from countries including Poland, would come each year to work, yet more than 800,000 have come since 2004.

It is powerless to stop the self-employed, while others could come here then work illegally.

Shadow Immigration Minister Damian Green said: “Immigrat-ion can be of real benefit to the country but only if it is properly controlled, including taking into account its impact not just on the economy but on the wider public service infrastructure.”

A Home Office spokesman dismissed the figures, insisting: “These figures are not about immigration. The vast majority of people in this survey came as short-term visitors.”

ROMANIANS & BULGARIANS ARRIVING ILLEGALLY FOR YEARS!

27.04.07, 12:00am

The reason the UK voted for them to join Europe was to solve the problems of thousands of illegals here claiming asylum and dissappearing.

Countries that were unsafe for their own population are now in Europe and the organised crime that made these coutries unsafe is migrating to the UK!

Romania was a country too dangerous to return their national judo team to, no surprise the rubbish we see arriving unchecked then or UK police refusing to record offences committed by Romanian criminals!

MATHS PROBLEM - AGAIN???

26.04.07, 10:08pm

So, if John Reid has placed a restriction of 20,000 from each of Romania and Bulgaria AND 60,000 have already arrived between December and February would I be correct is assuming that there will be no more allowed into the country for the rest of the year???
Of course, many of these will no doubt be short term visitors….. But I wonder how many of them will slip through the cracks and ‘disappear’ into the woodwork?
I don’t think there should be a blanket ban on immigration but I do think proper controls should be put in place. Having said that, the chances of ‘proper’ controls being put in place by this government is about the same as hell freezing over!

BOOM IN IMMIGRANTS...........

26.04.07, 9:21pm

AnthonyGibson - You are well wide of the mark. Our youngsters can't find jobs now. The official figure is 1.24 million NEETS, ( youngsters not in education, employment or training) and you can, as with all Government figures, double that figure and add some. Our youngsters have no chance now, so what on earth chance have they got against this constant assault on the economy from immigrants? This Government DO NOT CARE about our youngsters or indeed anything but themselves. VOTE THEM OUT, they are immoral.

again this is a timebomb waiting to explode. perhaps we should leave this country to them and go live in their country.
How much longer can this continue, until something gives and we have a full scale civil war on our hands.
