Lubbock keeps pressure on Barrymore

The father of a man found dead in Michael Barrymore's swimming pool has staged a protest outside the star's Edinburgh fringe festival show.

Terry Lubbock joined the queue for the entertainer's play and claimed he would not stop his fight until someone was "brought to account" for the death seven years ago.

He said: "My son was treated like a piece of meat. I'm not going to rest until I get some kind of justice. Someone is responsible for my son's death."

Stuart Lubbock, 31, of Harlow, Essex, was found dead in a swimming pool at Barrymore's then home in Roydon in March 2001.

His father hoped the protest, on the show's first night, would raise the profile of his campaign. He was unhappy with the outcome of an inquest in 2002, when an open verdict was recorded.

"If Mr Barrymore thinks I'm going to give up the fight, he's got another think coming," said Mr Lubbock. "The man has got to say what he knows about my son's death that night."

Mr Lubbock, 63, travelled to the Scottish capital by train from London, threatening to join the audience at Barrymore's show, Surviving Spike. "He will know I'm there, and that's good enough," he said. But Mr Lubbock later handed back his £10 ticket to the venue, telling staff to give it to the comedian.

He held up a diagram outside the Assembly Rooms in George Street, claiming to show injuries suffered by his son on the night of his death.

Mr Lubbock did not rule out another appearance at the venue and added: "We're hoping he moves to the West End in London, then we can get to him there too."

The Attorney General last week refused Mr Lubbock's appeal for a second inquest. An Independent Police Complaints Commission report into the incident is due soon.
