UNFAIR BRITAIN: Gordon Brown

Tuesday August 19,2008

By Alison Little Deputy Political Editor

LABOUR is today accused of betraying millions of hard-working Britons.

A damning report says the Government has created an unfair country where families, children, pensioners and future generations are all worse off.

The Tory report makes clear just how badly Labour has let Britain down and why voters are turning against the party in ever-increasing numbers.

It highlights a number of key areas where the nation has turned into Gordon Brown’s Unfair Britain, including:
THE two million pensioners who have lost almost £100 this year because the rise in Pension Credit is being wiped out by soaring inflation.

Hundreds of thousands of people missing out on dental care, with nearly a million losing their access to NHS dentistry over the past two years while Health Service charges have risen.

Drivers being clobbered by plans to raise vehicle excise duty for the most polluting cars bought as long ago as 2001, while overall taxes on motorists will increase by £1.6billion in the next three years.

Up to 100,000 parents unable to get their child into their choice of school last year.

Nearly one million more people living in severe poverty now than when Labour came to power, with life expectancy for the poorest at its lowest since Victorian times.

The stinging indictment  will be outlined by the Conservatives in a document today before a key address by Shadow Chancellor George Osborne tomorrow.

Focusing on why millions of people feel that they are being treated unfairly by the Government, the speech is timed to coincide with Mr Brown’s latest attempt to relaunch his lame premiership.

Although it is expected to concentrate on fairness, Mr Osborne said: “This latest desperate relaunch will sink, just like the others, because under Labour Britain has become more unfair.

“The compelling dossier we are launching shows that  Labour’s policies have made Britain more unfair.

“The truth is Gordon Brown’s old-fashioned Leftist idea that ‘only the state can guarantee fairness’ has led to a decade of top-down state control policies that have made our country less fair. Brown’s Labour means an unfair Britain.”

The Conservatives’ assessment accuses the Government of “failing fundamentally” even on Mr Brown’s
“narrow definition” of fairness in terms of equality.

It said: “For too many people in Britain today, especially the most vulnerable, Labour is failing to deliver fairness.” Mr Osborne said: “We will show how fair and progressive goals are now best achieved by Conservative means.

“Our emphasis on opportunity and responsibility will succeed where their top-down state control has failed.

“We are going to step up the pressure to make sure that Gordon Brown’s obsession with his own short-term survival does not do long-term damage to Britain. That would not be fair.”

Treasury Minister Angela Eagle retorted: “Labour is delighted the battle is to be joined on fairness when we are fighting a Tory party that, for all the talk of change, is still committed to the old unfair policies.

“This is the same Tory Party that opposed the minimum wage, opposed pension credit and the winter fuel allowance, opposed support for families through tax credits and still won’t commit to any real pledge on child poverty.

“George Osborne’s scattergun attack is just another example of the Conservatives trying to avoid tough questions about their own unfunded and unfair policies.”

HI KOJAK

20.08.08, 10:15am

I read your post and it is true what you say, but I think the Tories have got to get it right. I think we should give them two years to sort the mess out in all departments, and take what ever decisions they make, as, for the good of the UK and its people. IF they don't get it right, I am afraid there will be an uprising worse than the poll tax riots as people will think, "F*** it!" enough is enough.

This Labour Government has a lot to answer to. Everything they have been involved with has turned to ****. All Government department have problems, nothing runs as smoothly like it used to, prior to them taking power.

Gordon Brown has bleated for eleven in a patronizing way, his boring expression, "Hard working British families". He has done nothing but shaft the hard working British families

HOW?

20.08.08, 2:57am

How very observant of the Tories to ratify what is well known public knowledge.
The question is HOW are the Tories going to rectify matters when they, and they surely will return to power.
Or is this rhetoric just Tory claptrap the equivalent to NuLabour spin.
I am willing to wager now despite any promises from the Tories or any other political party for the future well being of the nations needy.
On gaining power, the first mournful bleat will be to blame Nulabour for everything forcing them to renegade on most if not all manifesto undertaking's because Nulabour has pillaged, plundered and saddled the nation with almost insurmountable debt for the foreseeable future.

TAKE HEART & TAKE SOLACE...

20.08.08, 2:54am

(a) Gordon Brown's PM position won't make it to the next General Election.
(b) Labour's own position is guaranteed not to make it through the next General Election.
(c) There will never be another Labour Government in this country, in our lifetimes.

Three points from which we may take (at least some) solace.

There are times when, even in pain, we must be patient - this is one of those times.

The destruction of the Labour Government is a spectator sport more delightful than anything offered by the Olympics!

So...watch, listen and enjoy, as Labour dismantles itself with bickering, back-stabbing, resignations and pitiful cosmetic re-shuffles - (every species can smell it's own extinction!) Right now, their downfall is the only sport I care to watch!

GIVE HIM HIS PENSION NOW & GET RID OF HIM

19.08.08, 4:17pm

Two million Pensioners is only the tip of the iceberg.

I'll warrant the amount pensioners are worse off is a lot more than just £100. Take for example pensioners left with a three/four bed roomed house...children grown up & moved away, how the hell can they afford the utility costs of over £1,200 - £1,500 a year. Try to downgrade their home & they have to find £400/£500 for H.I.P's....where from? So the property never goes on the market for families wanting to upgrade, whilst the pensioners suffer in silence. Car they purchased several years ago, large engine as they thought it would last out their senior years....they can no longer afford the petrol, road tax & maintenance. They cannot sell it as the new regulations have wiped out the value for trade-in purpose. Their age group now slots them into the "NHS Post Code Lottery"; no longer can they afford dental maintenance for dental work they probably paid for years ago....the list of hidden penalties is endless. One elderly gent 74 years of age, living nearby mentioned he received a telephone call 8 o'clock at night from the TV Licensing Dept, to advise he was late make payments on the installment plan and the plan would be cancelled if he didn't pay up immediately. I suggested he should send his TV License Fee to the Prime Minister for his attention, he could "fiddle it through" with the expenses he claims for his monthly Sky Satellite payments. For this Labour Government to say they are caring or listening to what people say; is the biggest con of the century, they are either brain dead from the neck up, plain stupid or insensitive to the suffering they have created during the past eleven years.

***********************************
What amazes me is that when he makes a personal appearance, there are still people who applaud him, smile at him, shake his hand, and give their approval

**********************************

It keeps me awake at night that one !

I do not know if i should be angry with the same said people , or pity them .

Its a mystery to me .
