Olympic hero Hoy claims gold hat-trick

Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy raced into the history books today after being the first Olympian to win three gold medals in a single Games since 1908.

A staggering one hundred years has passed since swimmer Henry Taylor clinched three gold’s for Britain in the 1908 London Games.

Now Scottish Hoy has entered the record books after riding to victory and jubilantly claiming his third gold and helping to further boost Britain’s pride at the Beijing Olympics.

The 32-year-old sped to victory in the all British men’s sprint final against his team mate Jason Kenny who valiantly took a silver medal as his colleague’s Olympic prowess shone through.

The crowd, including Tony and Cherie Blair, cheered the British finalists to their medal finishes and a visibly overjoyed Hoy embraced family members as he revelled in the realisation of his third Olympic gold.

Jason Kenny adds a silver medal to the gold he claimed in the men’s team event on Friday.

Team-mate Bradley Wiggins missed out on joining the heroic Hoy in scooping three gold’s after coming eighth in the Madison race with partner Mark Cavendish.

But the Belgium born biker had already more than shown his talent after claiming gold in the individual and team pursuit events.

Hoy’s golden hat –trick signals a valiant Olympic games for our British cyclists after the team have claimed a haul of eight medals with the BMX and mountain bike events still to come.

Hoy’s gold medals add to the gold he won at the 2004 Athens Games and a silver in 2000.

The Union Jack has dominated the Velodrome this week as medals rained down on our cycling Olympic heroes.

An emotional Hoy flew the flag high as he was presented with his final medal today.

British team-mate Victoria Pendleton also triumphed in the Women’s sprint final at the Beijing Velodrome.
