Conor Black, who was murdered in Harpurhey, Manchester

Tuesday August 19,2008

A 16-year-old boy denied murdering a teenager who was stabbed after a row broke out a party.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Manchester Magistrates' Court accused of killing 16-year-old Conor Black.

Conor was stabbed once in his left shoulder in Moston Lane, Harpurhey, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of Saturday.

He died on the way to hospital.

The magistrates were told that the joinery student was allegedly struck on the head with a can before the stabbing.

It is understood Conor was stabbed through the aorta - the largest artery in the body.

The youth's solicitor, Mr Simon Harrison, said his client "denies the extremely grave crime".

No application for bail was made and the youth was remanded in custody for seven days.

He is due to appear before magistrates again by videolink on September 16 when he will be committed to Manchester Crown Court, where a formal plea will be entered.
