The 25-year-old Devil Wears Prada actress admits she used to want a nose job to make her look more like other girls in the movie industry.

New Yorker Anne, who plays Agent 99 in new film Get Smart, released yesterday, experienced her first small-screen role as a 17-year-old in short-lived American television series Get Real.

“Growing up, there’s a lot of pressure on young women, when you first become aware of your own looks in relation to other women’s looks,” she said.

“You just want to be cookie-cutter beautiful. And sometimes you think, ‘Maybe I could change something about myself to fit that mould’. I’m no exception to that.

“When I was growing up I wanted a nose job because I didn’t think my nose was good. And my nose is now, I think, what lets me change my face a lot and lets me be glamorous as Agent 99.”

Anne recently split from Italian boyfriend Raffaello Follieri shortly before he was charged with 12 counts of federal wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.

In classic break-up style, the Princess Diaries star bolstered her image after the split with a bob-style haircut before returning to her familiar longer brown locks.

Despite the makeover and earlier crisis of confidence, Anne now emphatically rules out ever permanently altering her image.

“I just made a movie where I play a recovering drug addict and I look really rough,” she explains.

“Your face needs to have character if you’re going to be an actor or you’re just kind of a face. You’re not really a person or a personality.

“If there’s anything in my power to change myself, I’ll do it but in terms of radically changing myself for self-esteem or anything, no, I don’t think I’ll ever do that.”
