Blasts have hit a police HQ in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Sunday September 7,2008

Two blasts have gone off at the police headquarters in Afghanistan's second-largest city.

Casualties are feared in the blasts in Kandahar, but details are unknown.

Police officer Nematullah Khan said it wasn't immediately clear what triggered the blasts or how much damage they caused.

A second police officer said a suicide bomber attacked General Abdul Raziq, a border police commander.

Kandahar is the Taliban's former stronghold.

Militants unleashed a massive attack on the city's prison in June, killing about nine police and setting free almost 900 prisoners.
