The 59-year-old, born Lesley Hornby, says of Ace, son of her husband Leigh Lawson by his former partner Hayley Mills.

“Ace is actually the only person, apart from my two sisters and the occasional old school-friend, who calls me Lesley.

“Ace was eight when Leigh and I got together and we decided it would be awful for him to have to shout ‘Twiggy!’ across the supermarket.

“And so for Ace, who’s real name is Jason, Lesley it is.”

Twiggy adds that she now watches what she eats to keep her weight down.

“People say to me: ‘Oh, but you’re naturally thin.’ But if I ate and ate and ate I’d put on weight.

“However, it’s not good to be too thin once you reach a certain age.”
