Giggs ready to walk away

RYAN GIGGS has set the clock ticking on his career by saying he will call it quits as soon as Sir Alex Ferguson phases him out at Manchester United.

GIGGS Coaching options GIGGS: Coaching options

Giggs, 35 in November, has already made four appearances this term but has been warned by Ferguson his involvement is likely to be reduced because of his age and the emergence of Portuguese winger Nani.

Giggs, who broke  Bobby Charlton’s all-time club record of 758 appearances in the Champions League final win against Chelsea in May, says he will not hang around if he becomes a fringe player.

Giggs said: “I’m relaxed about my future and I’ve got this year left on my contract. As long as I’m healthy, getting picked and still enjoy it, then I’ll carry on.

“But if any of those things change, I’ll have to consider when I retire and it will be sooner rather than later.”

Giggs, who could start against Bolton at Old Trafford tomorrow, has no intention of walking away from football when he retires, however. He is already making plans to follow former United team-mates such as Steve Bruce, Roy Keane,

Mark Hughes and Paul Ince into management.

Giggs said: “Working under the manager here is the best schooling there is. Coaching would be an option and I just need to make sure I have all the qualifications.”
