VERSATILE ROBSON TO RETURN TO MIDFIELD

ROBSON: Ready to play in any position

Monday October 6,2008

By Andy McInnes

BARRY Robson insists he is ready to play anywhere for Celtic but admits a mid-field slot is still his preferred position.

The former Dundee Utd star stood in as a surprise left back in the Hoops 4-0 win over Hamilton after a back injury to Lee Naylor forced boss Gordon Strachan to re-jig his line-up.

But while Robson looked very comfortable in the role he feels strongly that he has all the credentials necessary to return to the middle of the park after this week's international break with Scotland.

“Lee was struggling with his back and the gaffer asked if I would play there.” explained Robson.

“That was fine by me as I just want to do my bit for the team. That’s the main thing

“I’m quite confident though of getting a game in middle of park. That’s where I want to play but if the manager needs me elsewhere I’m happy to do that as well.”

Robson meanwhile has warned Celtic’s rivals that his team are firing on all cylinders and deserve more credit for their Champions League performances than has been given.

He also laughed off claims that striker Scott McDonald was overweight pointing out that his scoring record spoke for itself.

“I thought we were outstanding all over the pitch against Hamilton and that it was a comfortable win” he said.

“We are looking good and it bares well that the strikers are scoring so frequently. We have been playing pretty good stuff recently, including in Europe where we haven’t got the credit we deserve, and have got the momentum going.

“Samaras is a great player for us this season and Scott has scored 31 goals since he arrived. People say he looks heavy but he’s a strong wee guy and a top player who works hard. No one here has got any problems with him.

“The international break won’t bother us here as we will all come back after Scotland flying high and ready to continue working hard.”
