 HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEARFriday October 24 2008
I would not suggest that High School Musical 3: Senior Year is in the same league as the Abba epic but it is a sugary, high-energy song’n’dance spectacular that wants nothing more than to amuse and entertain. WHAT the world needs now is a great big dollop of candy-coloured escapism to chase all the blues away. That’s probably why Mamma Mia! has been such a huge success this year. Generations ago, this kind of thing was left to Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. Now it’s Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as the high-school students negotiating the pitfalls of raging hormones and first love. WATCH OUR VIDEO FOR RED CARPET GOSSIP WITH THE STARS! All the students at East High have perfect teeth and golden tans and there isn’t a glimpse of a drug or a firearm on campus. Well, it is a wholesome, all-American fantasy. It is the final year of high school for our heroes as they face growing pains, impossible choices and sorrowful partings. Troy (Efron) cannot decide whether to accept his basketball scholarship or confess to his secret thespian leanings. Girlfriend Gabriella (Hudgens) has already committed to a university far, far away. How will they love happily ever after? Fortunately, everything can be solved with a plaintive ballad or a power anthem. Fans will love it and parents should find it painless.
