Prime suspect denies killing Meredith
PRIME suspect Rudy Guede yesterday launched a last-ditch bid to escape jail, with his lawyer claiming he is an “easy target” for the death of British student Meredith Kercher.
Guede, 21, is accused of killing Meredith in a drug-fuelled sex game with American Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. He had asked for a separate fast- track trial because he feared Sollecito, 24, and Knox would join in a pact against him.
A judge in Perugia, Italy, is expected to give his verdict early this week. The prosecution claim Meredith was killed by Knox as Sollecito and Guede held her.
Yesterday Guede’s lawyer Valter Biscotti said: “He has admitted being at the scene and he found poor Meredith dying on the floor but he didn’t kill her.

“He is an easy target but he has never changed his story while the other two have.” Both Knox, 21, and Sollecito, 24, deny being at the house when Meredith died. They may still face months in custody awaiting their full trial. Last week Knox’s lawyer said the killer was a “lone, robust man”.
But Mr Biscotti told the court: “We insist Amanda and Raffaele were at the scene. The only thing that Rudy is guilty of is maybe cowardice because after finding Meredith dying he ran away.”
Meredith, 21, from Coulsdon, Surrey, was found semi-naked with her throat cut in the house that she shared with Knox.
