It comes as the BBC came under increased pressure to sack the shamed Radio 2 presenters who left a series of vile telephone messages claiming Brand had slept with the actor's granddaughter.

The broadcasting corporation has issued a grovelling apology to the 78-year-old but that has far from put the scandal to bed - with Sachs calling for the pair to say sorry directly to model Georgina Baillie, 23.

More than 1500 listeners complained about the the on-air stunt by Ross, 47, who earns around £6million a year and Brand, 33, who is one of the Corporation’s rising stars.

Former tabloid editor Kelvin Mackenzie said: "This was a couple of schoolboys having a good time on the taxpayer. The guy who picked up the bill was a 78-year-old grandfather."

The incident took place during Brand’s radio show on October 18, when Sachs had been due to appear on air as a guest to talk about his role as the hapless Manuel.

When he did not answer his phone the pair left a message in which Ross was heard to shout: “He ****ed your granddaughter.”

They went on to leave another three explicit recordings about Ms Baillie, a glamour model, which Sachs’s agent said had deeply upset and offended him.

Mr Sachs, who was left deeply upset by the incident, said: “People ask me if I’m angry, well, yes, but not half as angry as Georgina. That’s where the apology should be directed.”

Sachs, who became a national treasure for his portrayal of the hapless Spanish waiter Manuel in the classic comedy Fawlty Towers, said he had received a personal letter of apology from Ross but had heard nothing from Brand.

Georgina’s mother Kate also expressed her anger at the way the pair had behaved.

She said: “Those two should just learn to grow up. My father is the world’s most decent man and to put him up in front of an audience for humiliation is ridiculous. Any apology to my daughter would be nice.”
