Aware that there were seven yellow cards and numerous flashpoints in Wednesday night’s Premiership draw at Stamford Bridge, the United boss is calling for any vendettas to be put to one side come 3pm on Saturday.

Ferguson said: “We do want a good Cup Final. We want to see a Cup Final that represents the English game in the right way.

“It’s an opportunity for both teams to give displays that prove we have the best two teams of the season at the new Wembley.

“We know that on the day we are going to have two sides ready for a battle. It did get a bit feisty for 10 minutes in the first half at Stamford Bridge, after that tackle from John Obi Mikel, but I thought the referee handled it well.

“It was feisty and competitive, and we know it will be competitive at Wembley.”

Ferguson believes taking the title off Chelsea will give United the edge as they go in search of the League and FA Cup double, while Jose Mourinho’s side try to add the FA Cup to the Carling Cup they won in Cardiff earlier in the year.

The United manager added: “We will be going into the game with confidence. We have players who can handle the situation, who can win games.
