Bush shows the Obamas around the White House
BARACK Obama, soon to be the first black President of the US, set foot in the Oval Office of the White House for the first time yesterday.
He was there for private talks with President George Bush about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the
global economic crisis.
The two leaders, who have both stressed the need for a smooth transition of power, posed with their wives for photographs.
Michelle Obama was given a tour of her future home by First Lady Laura Bush.
Mr Obama and Mr Bush were holding talks for more than an hour in the West Wing.
The visit came on the day opinion polls showed President Bush had become the most unpopular president in history with a greater disapproval rating than even Richard Nixon.
Last night it was revealed that Mr Obama is preparing to close the controversial Guantanamo Bay prison as one of his first acts as President.
His aides are said to be looking to release terror suspects from the camp in Cuba.
