Kadeem Blackwood was walking with friends in Derby when he was shot in the chest at what is believed to be close range, Derbyshire Police said.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Wednesday night confirmed the teenager's cause of death.

A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering Kadeem remains in police custody for questioning.

Kadeem was in Caxton Street recreation ground at about 9.19pm on Tuesday when he was gunned down. He was taken to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary but died from his injuries.

Investigating officers said they are looking for other suspects in connection with the shooting.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman said: "Our investigations reveal that this incident appears to be the result of a disagreement between two people which tragically escalated to this shooting.

"Far from being met by a wall of silence, residents have been excellent in their response to us. We believe that this is a result of Derbyshire Constabulary's good relationship with the local community.

"We have obtained a number of significant statements but we would appeal again for anyone with information which might be relevant to contact us.

"The community is appalled by this crime and are deeply upset by what has happened."
