John and Rachel, Strictly rivals

THE fight for Strictly Come Dancing survival is expected to be a classic case of age versus beauty tonight.

BATTLE John Sergeant and Rachel Stevens BATTLE: John Sergeant and Rachel Stevens

John Sergeant – the oldest competitor in this year’s contest – and Rachel Stevens are favourites to finish in the bottom two places this week.

It would mean they would have to go head-to-head in the dance-off tomorrow night.

Gorgeous singer Stevens, 30, and partner Vincent Simone hope to wow the judges with a passionate rumba after surviving the dance-off last week.

The pop star may have sex appeal on her side but leaden-footed Sergeant has become the nation’s favourite Strictly survivor.

The broadcaster, 64, is expected to receive another verbal battering from the judges this week.

But Sergeant and dance partner Kristina Rihanoff will hope that even if their American Smooth gets some rough comments then his charm will help them gain enough votes from the public to avoid finishing in the bottom two.

Viewers are in for a night of hip-twisting action as Holby City’s Tom Chambers turns up the heat.

The actor, 31, is tipped to be one of the last dancers standing in this year’s competition and will show off his sexy salsa tonight.

Actress Cherie Lunghi, 56, is set to hit the dance floor with a fiery cha cha cha routine and rugby ace Austin Healey will get to perform a  tango.

But perhaps the most eagerly awaited spectacle on Sunday night’s results programme will be when Strictly presenter Bruce Forsythe shows the rest of the wannabes exactly how it’s done.

The 80-year-old will perform Me And My Shadow with professional dancer Anton du Beke who was voted off the BBC1 show at the end of the second week with actress Gillian Taylforth.
